Rudolph The Dog

Category : Animals

This is a touching story of a puppy mill survivor.  It’s not so much about the horrors of puppy mills but of the lessons learned from this little guy, but it is definitely a reminder that puppy mills are terrible things and you should NEVER purchase a pet from a pet store.  Opt to adopt!

Giving to the less fortunate – update

Category : Uncategorized

This weekend I was at JoAnn’s and saw gloves for $1.00!!  I picked up 5 pairs to go along with the gift cards I’ll be passing out this week to the homeless.  They those thin stretchy gloves but they’re great for layering or better than nothing if someone didn’t have gloves at all.  Keep your eye out for good deals like this and consider picking up some warm accessories to throw in your handbag until you find someone who could use them.  Spread the cheer of the holidays!

Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel

6 oz - $22

I’m currently using Juice Beauty’s Cleansing Gel.  It is for combination skin but is extremely gentle and doesn’t dry out my skin in this cold dry weather.  The only thing I don’t think it does too well is remove make up.  I don’t actually wear a lot – tinted moisturizer, blush, and eye make-up.  When taking off make-up I have to wash my face twice to make a dent in the eye-makeup and even then the mascara doesn’t really come off – I guess I just need to use eye make-up remover and then I’d probably be fine to wash once with this cleanser.  Over all I do like it

Giving To The Less Fortunate

Category : Fun Things To Do

At the holidays we’re all so busy wrapped up in ourselves, our families and our friends that we often don’t stop to think of people outside of our bubble.  I’m sure like me, you’ve received countless emails from various organizations asking for money and most likely you’ve quickly deleted them or maybe in your rush to get somewhere you haven’t had time yet to slip $1 into the hanging pail the Salvation Army Bell Ringers hold.  As Chanukah quickly goes by and Christmas nears, take the time to slow down and see where you can help.

In an effort to do something good for others I created my own way of giving that might work for you too!  I live in Chicago where there are countless homeless people and it always breaks my heart to see them out in the freezing temps this time of year.  This will be the second year that I will pass out gift cards to them so they can get a hot meal.  Many don’t like to give people money as they’re not sure what the person will use it for.  This is a great way to give money but be certain that it will spent on a hot meal.  I have chosen a particular fast food establishment which I will not name as to be honest I don’t even eat there since even their fries have beef flavoring on them and nor do I really care to advertise them but they’re on nearly every block downtown.  Thus, they’re convenient, cheap, provide three meals a day and are open long hours, and as far as I can tell wouldn’t discriminate a homeless person coming in to purchase food.

I purchased several $10 gift cards which should cover a meal and a cup or two of hot coffee on other occasions.  I simply take a marker and write $10 on the plastic gift card and pass them out to the people that I see on a regular basis downtown.  It’s a small gesture but I’m happy to know they’ll be able to enjoy a little warm food on these terribly cold winter days.

Carrot Facial Scrub

Category : Beauty

I recently purchased the 100% Pure Carrot Facial Scrub.  I personally am not a fan of it although it may be perfect for someone with very sensitive skin.  I don’t feel that it has enough roughness in it – it just doesn’t give me a good scrub as it seems too soft.  They do advertise that it is for sensitive skin – which makes sense.  I imagine that there are people with extremely sensitive skin who can’t exfoliate with much more than a face cloth – if that’s you, this may be the perfect product for you!

Flip & Tumble!

Category : Household, Shopping

I’m in love with my new Flip & Tumble reusable shopping bag!  It’s super cute – hot pink and rolls up into a neat little ball.  It is so much easier to pack back up – just slide your fingers into the pouch, crumple the bag up into it and flip the top over and there you go!  SO much easier than the old bag I had that required folding!

TOMS – Choose Shoes!

TOMS shoes are a great holiday gift – you give the gift of shoes to someone in your life and someone without shoes somewhere in the world will also get a pair!

Stainless Food Storage Containers

Category : Food & Beverages

These are my new lunch containers – well I can use them for food storage at home too but I love that they’re so light weight and are perfect for bringing food to work.  The top expands which is really cool – so you can really fill the container up, or use is to toss the dressing on your salad – or they say you can dump your food into the top and microwave in it – I’m not crazy about microwaving silicone/plastic so I’ll pass on that but it’s a nice option.

Stainless Snack Containers

Category : Food & Beverages

I just got these and love how handy they are!  They’re very light weight and perfect for snack or small sides to take to work or for traveling.  I’ve been working on eliminating plastic from my kitchen which has meant me using a lot of glass which is a little heavy to tote to work and having to worry about it breaking.  They’re $24.95 for the set of three – definitely not nearly as cheap as plastic containers but they’ll likely last forever AND I don’t have to worry about them leaching chemicals into my food!
