I thought it would be fun to highlight a few ideas for Mother’s Day…
Rescue Chocolate not only tastes amazing but all proceeds go to animal rescue groups! Not to mention the chocolate is vegan – dairy free! These chocolate hearts are adorable and are filled raspberry ganache! YUM!
Don’t forget about the Peanut Butter Pit Bull…that’s a delicious one to add on as well! It’s my all time fav!
100% Pure Luxury Body Cream or Body Butter…
You could pair Rescue Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Mocha Body Cream (there is also a matching shower gel and body scrub!) or get mom ready to party with the Pink Champagne Nourishing Body Cream (and again, add in the matching shower gel and body scrub!). Actually, chocolate and champagne go well together!
Gift certificates for experiences are both pampering and eco-friendly in the sense that they’re not just knick-knacky bits of junk that she’ll soon tire of. Consider things like…a massage, facial, mani-pedi, hair cut or even just a blow out along with a dinner out – she’ll look fabulous and feel great for her night out!

Consider going out together to buy plants and sprucing up her yard for spring. It would be a fun activity to do together and something she’ll enjoy that will make her think of you all summer long!

How about donating money in her honor to a cause that is dear to her heart? MS, cancer, animal shelters, women’s shelter, etc…

So I recently did a little spring cleaning in my kitchen. It seems my cupboards and pantry were begining to overflow with stuff that we were clearly not eating! I found tons of fortune cookies, packs of crackers, etc that came with take-out food. It was stuff that we will never eat but I felt wasteful tossing out. So…I tossed all of these goodies along with other individual packaged items that we are not planning to eat into a bag in the pantry. This really helped to make my shelves less cluttered and free of the carb loaded, over sugared/salted items that we try to avoid. Now, every day I grab a few of the items and put them in my purse. Living in the city I come across tons of homeless people asking for money. I’m not big on giving money but I’m always more than happy to give them food or even to purchase food for them. With these items already in my purse I always have something on hand to give! It’s not much, but for someone with a hungry tummy, something is better than nothing. If you spend more time in the car you could keep a few things in your glove box as well. You never know when the need might arise to help someone out. I’d highly suggest doing this. Not only does it make you feel better for cleaning out your kitchen, but you’re feeding someone in need and being green all the while – by not adding to the landfill!
Another idea to pass along – we like to order pizza on the weekends but once the week comes we like to go back to healthy eating…so, the other day I took 1/2 left over pizza to work with me and gave it to a guy on the corner…he was super excited to have deep dish pizza for lunch! I used to end up throwing it away but I’ve realized this is a much better idea

I LOVE this video on how to veganize your pantry – or just make it healthier!

…half used travel size shampoos, conditioners and lotions that is! Most of us bring our own toiletries when traveling but on the occasion you forget or just decide you want to test out what the hotel has to offer, bring the left overs home! It’s unlikely that you’ll use the whole bottle in the time that you’re there so bring it home with you to avoid wasting the leftovers. This saves on waste and also means you’ll be able to recyle the bottle! These little items can be great for the gym, and the lotions fit nicely in hand bags and glove compartments of cars.

This is great to hear! I’m not at all a baseball fan but have been to Wrigley once to say I’ve done it. This summer I’ll be going again when my cousin comes for a visit from England. I’m glad to hear I’ll have some good food options when I go! Thanks to Vegetarian Star for sharing this with me!
Chicago Cubs Wrigley Field Makes Vegetarian Friendly Ballpark List
Written by Vegetarian Star on April 13th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Games and Sports.
Wrigley Field made PETA’s top vegetarian friendly ballparks for the first time ever.
The animal rights group’s annual list is out, and the Chicago Cubs were a tie with Prince Fielder’s home turf and home of the Milwaukee Brewers, Miller Field.
Several vegetarian options at Wrigley’s include black bean burgers and vegetable wraps.
With Aramark, a major food supply company to many sports arenas, expanding their vegetarian menu at places like Boston’s Fenway Park, more first time nominees are sure to land on the list next year.
Some winners from last year are taking another victory, like AT&T Park.
San Francisco Giants fans may feel as if they’ve stepped into a fine dining restaurant instead of a ballpark, where vegetable pot stickers, portabello mushroom sandwiches, veggie sushi and edamame can be devoured.
Who was number one?
The Philadelphia Phillies were a repeat winner with Citizens Bank Park offering an eclectic selection of faux crab cakes, faux steak and faux chicken sandwiches as well as faux dogs, wraps and salads.

As of late there has been much talk about soy not being good for us. Well, too much of anything is never really good for anyone. In my final detox class at Karyn’s (Chicago), Karyn said that in order to have issues with soy we’d have to ingest more of it than we’d comfortably be able to do. Point being, it’s ok in moderation and it’s a great transitional food. There are plenty of other milks out there – almond, hemp, coconut, and rice – use those when possible, otherwise soy is perfectly safe and healthy.

Dr. Steve “Weird Medicine” On Male Breasts From Soy
Written by Vegetarian Star on April 14th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Nutrition and Health.
Sirius XM Radio “Weird Medicine” with Dr. Steve
The debate over soy giving little and big boys girl parts will probably never end, due to the amount of prejudice against the real men who choose to eschew steak and opt for tempeh instead.
Dr. Steve, host of the Sirius XM radio program “Weird Medicine,” has taken a moment in Men’s Fitness to clear up the confusion as to whether a cup of soy milk a day keeps the testosterone away.
First, Dr. Steve wants you know that all men have breasts, just not big enough to look good in a Victoria’s Secret ad.
Because soy is rich in isoflavones, a chemical with estrogen like effects, some think it could stimulate breast growth in men.
After researching the keywords “soy and gynecomastia” in the National Institute of Health database, only a few articles of legitimate research actually show up, and the only serious case was that of a 60 year old man who drank 3/4 of a gallon of soy milk a day to get his hooters.
That’s 12 cups a day.
Once the doctors told him to knock that crazy shit off, he could no longer show off his bossom to his friends as it shrank tremendously.
“A 2004 Italian study of kids raised on soy protein formulas showed no gynecomastia, no early puberty, no changes in their bones and no other signs of screwed up hormones,” writes Dr. Steve.
In addition, some male children are raised on soy milk their entire lives and still have to get girlfriends to enjoy breasts.
So drink up and rest assured you’ll do not only your health, but the cows’ health a favor as well.

I’ll finally be able to have a Frappuccino again! Starbucks has heard their customers and is now making frapuccino’s with a non-dairy base, allowing customers to select their preferred type of milk – so for me, soy! It won’t be official until May 5 but some locations already have it…not everyone knows what vegan is or if stuff is non-dairy so the easiest way to ask your Starbucks is to simply ask if they’re making the new style of frappuccions.
Thanks to The Consumerist for sharing this exciting new info!
I want one! I saw something similar a few years ago at one of those gadget stores but they don’t seem to carry them any more. This seriously cleans WITHOUT chemicals. I love that it doesn’t have a cord so it’s easy to carry around the house. This is a fantastic invention! We all need one! Imagine how many bottles of different chemical solutions we could avoid and how much more room we’d have under our sinks! Put this on your wedding registry, birthday list – whatever it takes!
Get it from Active Ion
Thanks to Zem’s List on Ecofabulous for introducing it to me!
