My Heels!

vegan heels

So I was just browsing The Daily Green and there were the shoes that I’m wearing today!  Too funny!  I LOVE these shoes – as I’ve said before :)   Besides being the most comfy heels I own, they’re vegan (leather free) and made by Neuaura in a plant that recycles and avoids toxic chemicals.  I purchased mine from Kind Boutique and although they’ve sold out, Erin always has plenty of super cute shoes in stock!

Pure Citizen

Category : Fashion

Its funny, yesterday I was thinking how nice it would be if there was an online sample sale type company that sold only eco-friendly brands…and this morning I got an email from Girly Girl Army telling me my dream has come true!  Amazing!  Pure Citizen is just what I was looking for!  I’m super excited about this site.  Check it out for yourself and be prepared for some great sales to come!

Poverty, Education & The Andean Collection

I was recenlty reading about The Andean Collection on Eco Fashion World and found the following statistics heartbreaking…

According to studies by The World Bank discussed on Global Issues:

  • Almost half the world (over 3 billion people) lives on less than $2.50 a day.
  • At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day.
  • The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.
  • 1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
  • Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
  • Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
  • Based on enrollment data, about 72 million children of primary school age in the developing world were not in school in 2005; 57 per cent of them were girls. And these are regarded as optimistic numbers.

It really makes you appreciate what you have when you think about people that have so very little and have virtually no opportunities to make their life any better.

Acai Wrap Bracelet $21

I continued reading after those statistics and learned about The Andean Collection – a very cool company that makes some gorgeous jewelry!  They use natural materials (like acai seeds and huayruro seeds – very creative!) and embrace fair trade principles with their employees in Ecuador.  They even pay for the education of their employees children and if their adult employees want to go school they cover that as well!  It is small companies like The Andean Collection who will help to change those awful statistics above!  I’ll be keeping them on my shopping list at Christmas for sure!

Wedding Bells

Category : Fashion, Food & Beverages, Fun Things To Do

I’m sure you’ve picked up on the fact that Eric and I recently got married :)   We also just returned from our fabulous honeymoon in Greece and Switzerland.  So, I figured it would be fun to share some of the photos from the wedding and honeymoon with you.  We have yet to transfer the honeymoon photos to the computer so for now I’ll start with the wedding.  Kelly Sweet from Grand Rapids, MI was our photographer.  She and her assistant were absolutely amazing.  She’s given us a preview of the photos on her blog and now we anxiously awaiting the rest of them.

Since we’re both from Michigan, we had the wedding there, in my home town.  The ceremony was at my family church – both sides of my family have been members going back to my grandparents on one side and great grandparents on the other side!  It was a very special place to be.  I love this photo of the church…

My dress was made by Susan Yancer Hatcher in Spring Lake, MI.  The first layer of tule was blue!

Our little ring bearer Winston was absolutely adorable….his tux was from Barker & Meowsky (a supporter of PAWS Chicago!)

For table decorations, I made table runners and a family friend found these great vintage white vases as Goodwill and Salvation Army.  The flowers on the came from the local farmer’s market (with the exception of the spider mums) - my dad and a friend from church did the arrangements and bouquets.

Check out the rest of the photos on Kelly Sweet’s Blog -

you’ll see…my cute non-leather, pink shoes from Spring sitting on my favorite piece of family furniture – my Nana’s old green chairs, my Aunt Sara (along with help from Grandma & Grandpa) made the adorable dress for my God Daughter who came from England for the wedding, our absolutely delicious vegan cupcakes from Molly’s in Chicago, my Nana’s hanky served as my something old and something blue, the hand mirror was a very special shower gift from my cousin – handmade by a woman who took my Nana’s old jewelry and attached it to the back of the mirror – it’s beautiful and every so special, my pearl necklace and bracelet were from Bourdage Pearls in Chicago, on my right hand I wore a pearl ring which was a gift from Eric that morning (his Grandma gave it to me – it was a 1st wedding anniversary gift from Grandpa when she was pregnant with Eric’s dad – so special!), my pearl earrings were a Christmas gift from Eric this past Christmas, I made the programs and bound them on my sewing machine, we had two bands, the second (featured in the photos) is Ani from metro Detroit…

Apple Cider = Fall

Category : Fashion, Food & Beverages

Yesterday I purchased my first jug of apple cider from Lehman’s Farm at the farmers market – what a lovely treat while at work.  For me, apple cider is a big part of fall – my favorite season.
