Throughout history, the pomegranate has been venerated as a symbol of health, fertility, rebirth and beauty. Ancient Greeks believed that the pomegranate was the fruit of the Gods. To ancient Egyptians, who used pomegranates to treat such maladies as dysentery and stomach aches, the pomegranate was sacred and symbolized vigor and immortality. The celebrated fruit was even discovered in the tomb of King Tut.
The name pomegranate comes from the term Pome Garnete, which means “seeded apple” in 16th century middle French.
It is thought to be one of the first fruits to be cultivated, between 4,000 and 3,000 B.C., along with dates, olives, figs and grapes.
Pomegranate trees stand 5 to 16 feet from roots to top and begin to blossom in early spring. Bright-red star like flowers shoot from the branches.

Signs of aging appear when free radicals overtake the functions of our healthy skin cells, including their self-defense mechanisms and ability to build natural antioxidants.
This process can also occur in younger skin with regular and excessive exposure to UV light, cigarette smoke, alcohol or medication. Our face, hands and neck are the first areas to show signs of aging and must be especially cared for and protected.
Regular use of skin-care products made with ingredients rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants:
Nourishes the skin
Helps to preserve the elasticity and firmness of the skin
Helps to protect from damaging environmental influences
Our skin does not have to reveal our true age as defined in years. Instead it can radiate with the freshness and vitality we feel within.
As we grow older, our skin’s moisture level naturally decreases. Dermatological studies show that the use of Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream helps increase the moisture levels in the skin by up to 34% over four weeks,* leaving your hands soft and smooth.

A brief lesson on Pomegranates…
(courtesy of Weleda)
Pomegranate (Punica Granatum)
Native to Persian Empire in what is today Iran, Iraq, Greece and Turkey, among other countries, the pomegranate plant is a shrub or small tree that has been cultivated by humans for millennia. Since antiquity it has appeared in art, literature and legend as a symbol of life, power, beauty and fertility; which is appropriate as some pomegranate trees are known to live for over 200 years. Today, pomegranates are widely grown throughout India and Middle East. The most coveted part of the tree is the fruit itself which contains hundreds of seeds encased in juicy arils. These seeds are rich in punicic acid and have strong anti-oxidant properties that help promote cell renewal and regeneration.
