HSUS – End Dog Fighting Campaing – Chicago

Category : Animals

Dog fighting is absolutely DISGUSTING.  I just cannot grasp the mentality of someone involved in this horrid act.  I’ve read so much about it and have seen some horrible footage that made me realize I had to do something.  I recently got involved with HSUS’s End Dog Fighting Campaign here in Chicago and am planning an event at Irish Eyes on January 20 – I’ll keep you posted with more details, but for now, please save the date.    I just came across this video from HSUS about the campaign and would love to share it with you it is totally safe to watch – there isn’t anything graphic at all

Peanut Butter Pit Bull – Rescue Chocolate

Category : Animals, Food & Beverages

I’m in love with the Peanut Butter Pit Bull bar from Rescue Chocolate!  This vegan chocolate peanut butter bar is absolutely fantastic!  In my opinion you just can’t go wrong with dark chocolate.  The filling is creamy peanut butter with an occasional crunch of crispy rice.  These are miles better than Reese’s PB Cups and not to mention vegan!  Better for you and the environment!

$4.95 a bar

Ok, now to the real important stuff.

By purchasing this particular bar, I’m helping to end dog fighting…money is donated to legislation to end the cruel practices of dog fighting and to help find loving, responsible homes for pit bulls.

100% of net profits go to rescue organizations around the country!

A few clips from their website:

Your purchase of Peanut Butter Pit Bull helps make dog fighting a thing of the past; ensures that dog laws focus on deed not breed; and helps those working hard to place pit bulls in loving, responsible homes.

The packaging of each vegan flavor of Rescue Chocolate sheds light on a different aspect of the current pet “overpopulation” epidemic. Not only are we interested in raising funds for rescues, but we want to get the word out about these oh-so-fixable issues!

Can Rescue Chocolate help my animal shelter or rescue organization?
Yes! Please contact Sarah at (917) 767-7283 or info@RescueChocolate.com to get your organization saving more lives with Rescue Chocolate!

Jorja Fox Joins The HSUS to Help End Dogfighting in Chicago

Category : Animals, Fun Things To Do

I wish I could go to this event but I’ll be off getting some sun in Mexico

If any of you are in Chicago February 27, please try to attend!  This is a great cause – dogfighting is a disgusting industry.  I’ve seen some pretty disturbing videos.  One thing that stands out is how loyal these dogs are to their owners.  They’ll be put in a ring and told to fight and even while they’re getting their faces ripped a part, they keep wagging their tails as they hear their owners shouting, encouraging them on – in their mind they’re being obedient and they’re pleasing their owners.  It’s extremely depressing

The annual Spotlight Humane gala features dogs, drinks, and fine dining…

Jorja Fox, of the CBS hit crime drama “CSI,” will host the fifth annual Spotlight Humane: Chicagofundraiser at the Hotel Sofitel Water Tower on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.

The benefit will support End Dogfighting in Chicago, a program of The Humane Society of the United States. EDC is an innovative, community-based program that works to turn Chicagoans away from dogfighting through street-level intervention, free dog training classes, humane education in Chicago public schools, religious leader outreach, and collaboration with law enforcement.

“As a dog lover, I am honored to be the host of The Humane Society of the United States’ Spotlight Humane: Chicago,” Fox said. “All proceeds from this event benefit the End Dogfighting in Chicago campaign, which reaches directly into high-risk communities. No one else in the country is doing more than The HSUS to end dogfighting.”

Spotlight Humane: Chicagois a festive evening of live music, dancing, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and extra features, including:

  • A special presentation by HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle
  • The Humane Chicago Awards, presented to those performing outstanding charitable work for animals in the Chicago region
  • Silent and live auctions for items such as Oprah Winfrey Show tickets, trips to sunny getaways and autographed sports memorabilia
