Still looking for the perfect gift for the animal lover who has it all? Farm Sanctuary would be the perfect present! Adopt an adorable farm animal and make a difference this year instead of contributing to the mass amount of stuff your friends and family already have. Non profits need your support all year round but since we’re all on a giving high right now, consider giving this one gift that really makes two – a gift to someone you love and the gift of a healthy, happy life to a sweet animal.
will steal your heart with his
tender glance. Just a baby when
he was rescued a few months
ago, he will be spending his first
holiday season at our California
Shelter – protected from the
cruelty most calves face every
day. By sponsoring Elliot, you
will give him the life of care and
compassion that all animals like
him truly need and deserve.

I was reading the recent Mercy For Animals Newsletter and found there is yet another study which points at animal agriculture for ruining our planet. Nathan Runkle posted the following…
And now, researchers at Canada’s Dalhousie University have concluded that, based on current trends, raising animals for food will push the world near danger levels for global climate change and habitat destruction by the year 2050. The article entitled “Forecasting potential global environmental costs of livestock production 2000-2050” found that, due to population expansion, per capita meat consumption will have to be reduced by as much as 42% by 2050 just to keep environmental damage caused by animal agriculture at current levels.
According to a studyreleased in April 2008, if per capita meat consumption were reduced to mid-20th century levels, the costs of climate change could be reduced by 50%.
Whatever you can do to change your diet will definitely make an impact over time. If you couldn’t imagine going veg “cold turkey” then take it one step at a time – you don’t even have to have vegetarianism or veganism as your end goal – that may be too far off for many – just try adjusting your diet with baby steps. You could…partake in Meatless Mondays, be vegetarian/vegan until 6pm, eat veg on the weekdays and have weekends be your meat days….or just simply make a conscious effort to eat less meat, eggs and dairy whenever its convenient for you

Here’s a video of the adorable calves I mentioned the other day – they’re so cute! Please consider helping them!

Farm Sanctuary recently came to the aid of six male Holstein calves, several just days old, who had been abandoned without food or water and left for dead. With much love and care these calves are now thriving, but they are in desperate need of potential adopters for these sweet boys.
Farm Sanctuary operates the country’s largest farm animal rescue and adoption network. Every year, they assist with urgent placement needs — particularly in cruelty cases involving large numbers of animals. When their shelters are full, they depend on compassionate people who want to make a direct difference for a suffering cow, pig, chicken or other farm animal. Since 1986, nearly 3,000 needy farm animals have been given a new beginning — thanks to people all across the country who have room in their hearts and their homes to join our FARM ANIMAL ADOPTION NETWORK (FAAN). Please consider joining and helping out these adorable little calves!
