I am a huge believer in the benefits of massage therapy, however massages can be pricey. In some cases your health insurance may cover part or all of your massages but if you’re not that lucky you should consider going to a massage school for inexpensive yet fabulous massages by students. They may still be in school but they know what they’re doing and they’re good.
I have been very happy with Cortiva Institute in Chicago (they also have locations in Boston, Scottsdale, Tucson, Seattle, and more!). A one hour massage with a student is $40 and since it is conveniently located in the loop it is a great thing to do on your lunch hour! You should plan to book a few days in advance.
The New School for Massage in Chicago is another great option. I haven’t been but Eric has and he has always been pleased. A 1 hour massage with a student is $35 but book a couple of weeks in advance as they tend to be busy!
The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago (also in NYC and San Diego) is also an option, although I don’t know anyone who has personally been. Their student massages are $35 an hour. Students, seniors (over 60) or veterans – all with IDs – are only $25! They also offer acupuncture and herbal consultations for $30-$35 each.
