New Grill Makes Awesome Veggies

Category : Food & Beverages, Recipes

We recently got a FABULOUS new grill as an early wedding gift from some very dear friends/family.  Grilled veggies are not only super delicious but HEALTHY – a meal entirely made up of grilled veggies – YUM!  Eric and I could live on this everyday!  One thing we hadn’t tried before was grilling sweet potatoes – what have we been doing all these years keeping them off the grill?!  They were fantastic!  I simply sliced them, then tossed them in olive oil, sea salt and cinnamon.  For the skewers you see, we did half with olive oil and random herbs and the other with BBQ sauce.  It was a wonderful dinner – I’m looking forward to a lot more grilling over the summer.

100% Pure Gives Back

Category : Beauty

I just realized that you all probably never saw this…I posted it in January but set it to post January 2009 NOT 2010…which means it back posted it and just put it at the very end of all my posts.  Since you more than likely have not seen it, I thought I’d give it a try again

I’ve been trying a lot of 100% Pure products and I just love them.  I think I love even more what a great company they are.  I recently received a letter from Susie, the owner, sharing what they’ve done this year.  It makes me so happy to know I’m supporting such an amazing company.  Here are a few highlights from her letter:

All our 100% Pure formulas are biodegradable, all our labels are printed with non toxic soy ink, our packaging is from post recycled and or recyclable materials, our shipping materials are pre-cycled – we pick up from our neighbors packing materials such as popcorn and packing boxes to re-use them which eliminates waste, and majority of the paper we use is recycled.

Also, thank you deeply for supporting and believing in our mission to help animals. 100% Pure formulas are completely cruelty free (none of our formulas or ingredients were ever tested on animals) and 100% Pure formulas and makeup brushes are vegan (or vegetarian when cruelty free honey ingredients are used). With your generous support to 100% Pure, these are the ways we helped animals this year:

**** We have rescued and placed 21 dogs into loving, happy homes that were abandoned or about to get euthanized at shelters

**** We have donated to private individuals who were not able to afford surgery or necessary medical care for their pets and without our help, a lot of caretakers would have had to of put their pets to sleep or let them suffer in pain. We arranged with animal hospitals to contact us if a caretaker opts out of treatment due to financial inability. We told the hospitals if there are ever cases like this, we are happy to financially help and this year, we saved quite a few pets this way

**** We made generous financial and product donations to no kill shelters that needed to raise money

We currently donate products to a women’s shelter that is a haven for battered women who have nowhere else to go. My fiancee’s grandmother passed away from breast cancer and I know for certain that with enough money into research, we can find a cure so women no longer have to suffer from this disease. I also love children and it breaks my heart when children are hungry from poverty.

Cranberry Granola – Two Moms In The Raw

Category : Food & Beverages, Health

I recently discovered Two Moms In The Raw granola and it is FANTASTIC!!!!  I’m doing a detox right now and am eating raw…sounds a little odd, yes, but it’s great! – I feel wonderful and it’s so much better for my body.  It’s actually super important to consume as much raw food as possible as cooking kills the enzymes which are necessary for digestion and nutrition.  So…when possible, opt for raw foods.  This Cranberry Granola by Two Moms In The Raw is delicious!!  And not to mention, vegan and organic!

Argan Oil – JMC

Category : Beauty

$48 for 0.5ml

I finally bought myself a bottle of Josie Maran’s Argan Oil and boy do I love it!!!  I was slightly nervous at the thought of using an oil as a moisturizer but it sinks in beautifully and doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily.  I have pretty normal to combination skin – if I get oily its in the t-zone.  I have not had any oil issue since using this.  It’ s a great dual purpose item as you can use it on cuticles, dry ends of hair, and more – basically what dry spot you can think of!

From Josie…

This legendary, lightweight oil, grown organically in Morocco, is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Use it as a fast absorbing daily moisturizer, or to heal and condition everything from cuticles to split ends. Plus it is 100% organic! Housed in a recyclable glass bottle.

Victory: Government Adopts Stronger Rules for Organic Milk

Category : Food & Beverages, Health

Remember when I asked for help in reforming the organic meat and dairy industry?  The efforts were successful!

From the ASPCA…

Good news—the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) proposed regulations for the care of “organic” dairy cows, which we asked you take action on two weeks ago, have been approved! The new rules, effective June 17, stipulate that organic milk and meat must come from livestock grazing on pasture for at least four months of the year; 30 percent of the cows’ feed must come from grazing; and ranchers must have a plan to protect soil and water quality.

“We are delighted to learn that so many cows will now have access to pasture and an opportunity to graze,” says Robert Baker, ASPCA Senior Manager of Farm Animal Welfare. “We hope this will be the first of many steps the USDA will take to align organic standards with humane standards. Consumers need to be given an opportunity to make a ‘humane’ choice as well as a healthy choice when they choose organic products. We welcome these initial measures toward this goal.”

We would like to give a big thanks to News Alert readers and members of the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade who took the time to email the White House from ASPCA.org. Over the span of 15 days, more than 33,000 emails were sent!

“Clear and enforceable standards are essential to the health and success of the market for organic agriculture,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in a USDA press release issued last Friday. “The final rule published today will give consumers confidence that organic milk or cheese comes from cows raised on pasture, and organic family farmers the assurance that there is one, consistent pasture standard that applies to dairy products.”

Organic Cotton Bedding – Lands’ End

Category : Household

I’m always looking for organic cotton or bamboo bedding.  Unfortunately it’s still not as mainstream as it should be.  West Elm and Pottery Barn have been carrying it for a little while but I just realized that now Lands’ End has a decent selection!  Check it out!

Tulsi Tea

Category : Food & Beverages

Have you ever had tulsi tea?  I used to drink it all the time and then for whatever reason switched to something else but now I’m back on it.  Tulsi is from India and has a distinct flavor different from other tea.  I know this is a horrible way of explaining it, but it has a bit of a spice to it – maybe somewhat chai-ish.  I purchase Organic IndiaTulsi Tea.  Currently I have the Pomegranate Green and the Raspberry Peach.

Here’s some info from their website:

In India, the herb Tulsialso called holy basil (sometimes spelled “Tulasi”) has been widely known for its health promoting and medicinal value for thousands of years. Commonly called sacred or holy basil, it is a principal herb of Ayurveda, the ancient traditional holistic health system of India. holy basil is known as “The Incomparable One”, “The Mother Medicine of Nature”, and “The Queen of Herbs”.

Tulsi is rich in antioxidant and renowned for its restorative powers, Tulsi has several benefits:

  • Relieves stress / adaptogen
  • Bolsters immunity
  • Enhances stamina
  • Provides support during cold season
  • Promotes healthy metabolism
  • A natural immuno-modulator

Tulsi Tea can be enjoyed throughout the day, from morning to night. However, even one cup of Tulsi Tea a day is beneficial. During times of illness, the quantity and the strength of ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi TEA can be increased to quicken recovery.

Tulsi has been used for thousands of years to prevent and minimize the symptoms of colds and flu, to support upper respiratory health, reduce fevers and promote overall health. When utilizing Tulsi Tea to lessen the duration of colds or flu, it is suggested that you increase the amount and strength of the tea you consume. Suggested use: 2-3 tea bags per cup of tea, 3-6 times per day.

Tulsi is also great with a milk and a sweetener!

I love that this Tulsi Tea is organic.  They’re even committed to responsible packaging – the carton the tea is packaged in is made from 100% recycled paperboard with a minimum of 30% post consumer content and the tea bags are made from unbleached, biodegradable fiber.
