Bath & Body Works and Animal Testing

1

Category : Beauty

I recently noticed that Bath & Body Works states on their label:  “This finished product is not tested on animals.”  So – think that through – that’s great to know the lotion your purchasing was not specifically tested on innocent animals but what this is really saying is that at least some of the individual ingredients used in the formula WERE TESTED ON ANIMALS!  This is AWFUL!  Please don’t purchase their products anymore.  This is such a disgusting way to make people think their products are cruelty free when in fact they certainly had something to do with inhumane treatment of animals.

Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel

Category : Beauty

6 oz - $22

I’m currently using Juice Beauty’s Cleansing Gel.  It is for combination skin but is extremely gentle and doesn’t dry out my skin in this cold dry weather.  The only thing I don’t think it does too well is remove make up.  I don’t actually wear a lot – tinted moisturizer, blush, and eye make-up.  When taking off make-up I have to wash my face twice to make a dent in the eye-makeup and even then the mascara doesn’t really come off – I guess I just need to use eye make-up remover and then I’d probably be fine to wash once with this cleanser.  Over all I do like it

Carrot Facial Scrub

Category : Beauty

I recently purchased the 100% Pure Carrot Facial Scrub.  I personally am not a fan of it although it may be perfect for someone with very sensitive skin.  I don’t feel that it has enough roughness in it – it just doesn’t give me a good scrub as it seems too soft.  They do advertise that it is for sensitive skin – which makes sense.  I imagine that there are people with extremely sensitive skin who can’t exfoliate with much more than a face cloth – if that’s you, this may be the perfect product for you!

Body Butter – Blood Orange & Mango

Category : Beauty

I’ve started using 100% Pure’s body butters and I LOVE them! I have Blood Orange and & Mango. The consistency of the Blood Orange is different from most – it’s hard but as soon as it touches your hands it begins to melt. If you’ve ever used coconut oil as a moisturizer, it is very similar to that in consistency.  I do like the consistency of the Mango better as it is a little creamier and not as hard.  A little definitely goes a long way. The scent of both are strong but not over powering.

As the website says, they’re “deeply moisturizing, and intensely nourishing body butters packed with anti-aging vitamins and antioxidants. These are true body butters, made with the rich butters from avocado, shea and mango – not watered down so they are intensely moisturizing.”

Also from their site…

Why 100% Pure?

“As much as 60% of topical skin-care products are absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream,” Says Dr. Nancy Lonsdrof, M.D. an lowa-based physician, “They should be consumed with the same prudence that we use to choose our breakfast cereal.” – April 2006 issue of Women’s Health Magazine. There are many toxic chemicals in cosmetic products that have been clinically proven to cause cancer, tumors, irritation and many different skin disorders. 100% products are truly 100% Pure-no synthetic chemicals, chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, artificial colors, harsh detergents or any other unhealthy toxins.

Easy To Make Body Scrub

Category : Beauty

I love making my own body scrub.  It is FAR CHEAPER and fun to create my own delightful scents.

You’ll need three ingredients:

Brown Sugar
Safflower Oil
Essential Oil

Put the brown sugar in a cute jar, mix in safflower oil until the sugar is coated and moist but not drowning in oil.  Add essential oil until you reach your desired strength of scent and you’re done!  Super easy!

I like Safflower Oil because it shares many similarities with the naturally occurring lipid components of the human skin and, unlike other oils, it doesn’t clog the pores or irritate follicles and hence is suitable even for acne prone skin.  It contains essential fatty acids like linoleic acid that can smooth, nourish and help damaged skin hold onto moisture better.

LUSH – no more palm oil!

Category : Beauty

LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics has removed Palm Oil from their products.  The process of harvesting Palm Oil plays a HUGE part in the destruction of the rain forests.  Start checking labels and you’ll quickly realize it is in tons of products in your home.  It’s great to hear LUSH cares so much.  They were already a great company as they’re cruelty free and their products are all vegetarian and many are vegan, but now they’re even better!

“Global demand for the oil, a main ingredient in processed foods as well as soaps and cosmetics, is causing the clearing of ancient rainforests to make room for more palm oil plantations. This action forces indigenous people off their land, has pushed orangutans to the brink of extinction and is jeopardizing our eco system.”

Vitamin E For Lips

Category : Beauty, Health

The season of dry lips has begun.  My favorite remedy is Vitamin E, which I love because it’s as natural as you can get – obviously no parabens, chemicals, etc. and it even looks great!  It basically looks like clear lip gloss but it is far more moisturizing and is totally healty to ingest – unlike gloss, it’s actually good for you if you lick some off.  The only drawback is that it can be a little messy.  I take a capsule and prick it with a pin to make a tiny hole so not a lot comes out at a time.  Just squeeze it on – if you get too much lick it right off – Vitamin E is good for your body!  I keep one capsule on my night stand on this little plate so it is handy and then the plate is easily washable once the capsule is empty.  I keep another in a little pill box in my hand bag to use on the go.

You can easily purchase Vitamin E at any store that sells vitamins – drug store, grocery store, health food store, etc.
