Beat Dry Skin With Avocados

Category : Food & Beverages

Avocados are great for dry skin due to the long, dry winter.  They’re rich in monosaturated fat and vitamin E.  Yesterday for lunch I sliced up an avocado and put it on top an everything bagel – it was delicious! Simple but good – and good me!

Vitamin E For Lips

The season of dry lips has begun.  My favorite remedy is Vitamin E, which I love because it’s as natural as you can get – obviously no parabens, chemicals, etc. and it even looks great!  It basically looks like clear lip gloss but it is far more moisturizing and is totally healty to ingest – unlike gloss, it’s actually good for you if you lick some off.  The only drawback is that it can be a little messy.  I take a capsule and prick it with a pin to make a tiny hole so not a lot comes out at a time.  Just squeeze it on – if you get too much lick it right off – Vitamin E is good for your body!  I keep one capsule on my night stand on this little plate so it is handy and then the plate is easily washable once the capsule is empty.  I keep another in a little pill box in my hand bag to use on the go.

You can easily purchase Vitamin E at any store that sells vitamins – drug store, grocery store, health food store, etc.

Omega-3s

Category : Food & Beverages, Health

Most people are under the impression that the best/only way to get their Omega-3s is from fish oil – however, there ARE other ways – one of the being flax seed!  Hemp seeds, walnuts, rapeseed (canola oil) and soybeans are also good sources.

Flax Oil

  • One teaspoon of flaxseed oil contains 2.5 g of ALA.
  • One tablespoon of ground flaxseeds contains 1.6 g of ALA.
  • If flaxseeds are not ground, there is a chance they will not be digested. They can be ground in a blender (works best with a large amount) or coffee grinder, and then stored in the freezer. Ground flaxseeds can be sprinkled on cereal or used in baked goods.
  • Cooking flaxseed oil damages the ALA, but it can be put on warm food such as toast. Flaxseed oil should be kept in the refrigerator.
  • A straight teaspoon of flaxseed oil does not taste so great. Some people use cinnamon-flavored, tablets, or put it on toast or salad to make it taste better.

Calcium

Category : Food & Beverages, Health

Vegans can easily get plenty of calcium from non-dairy sources.  Even if you’re thinking of going vegan just one day a week you can rest assured that you won’t be calcium deficient.  Think of all the things that are now fortified with calcium!  Even orange juice now has as much if not more calcium than a glass of milk!  I like to eat a spoonful of black strap molasses every night.  It has lots of calcium along with other things such as iron AND it does double duty by fulfilling my sweet-tooth!  Broccoli is another great source of calcium!  Here are lots of great ideas on how to get your calcium…
